Moving with Children. Thinking about relocating to Belize with the entire family?
Well, listen to this fantastic show where our host Macarena speaks with Birgitta about moving with children.
Moving with children abroad is nothing new to this mom. Birgitta has moved to 6 different countries carrying her 3 children, which some of us might imagine is not easy to do. For Brigida, moving with 3 children was quite different especially when moving to a country where a different language is spoken. Children often have a hard time adapting to a new environment where a different language is spoken. They feel they cannot communicate with others and understand their cultures. This would get them frustrated, it gives them a sense that they do not fit in and do not belong there!
But; children’s minds are very absorbent and they learn quickly. This is why, if you want your children to learn a different language, then you move to that place during their childhood; as Brigida mentions, after the age of 12, it is much harder for children to remember things. Also growing up and learning the language will make them feel at home and allow them to feel they are part of that environment.
Relocating to different places is beneficial to your children as it lets them grow with an open mind and allow them to embrace different environments. It gives them confidence that they can fit anywhere in the world. People are always willing to help you get around when relocating, however, you have to be open and also try your best to be nice to them. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, we all learn from our mistakes. Another point that people worry about when relocating, is the different currency, but Brigida suggests that this was not an issue for her.
She suggests that the key to enjoy an overseas living is to be open and welcome the adventures that come along with it. Talk to locals and make new friends as they are always willing to help new comers.
